Seven Days in June: HEALTH IS PRIMARY

Behind every slashed health budget is a human life.
On Friday, June 5 at sunset, our community is coming together for a candlelight vigil in Amistad Park to honor those we've lost and protect the care we still need. Stand with us.
Washington politicians slashed $1 trillion from our healthcare safety net, but they intentionally delayed the pain until after the upcoming November elections. They are trying to hide the devastating consequences from voters, so we are mobilizing from June 1-7 to force them to answer for it before we cast our ballots.
H.R. 1 is the largest healthcare rollback in American history, but it was designed as a political trick. By delaying the worst cuts until later this year, lawmakers are hoping we won't notice that our local clinics are going bankrupt until it's too late.
These aren't just abstract budget numbers. Stripping $1 trillion from Medicaid, public health, and rural hospitals is potentially deadly for our most vulnerable friends and neighbors. Researchers estimate these cuts will cause over 51,000 preventable deaths every year.
Washington claims we must cut $1 trillion from our local hospitals to balance the budget, yet they magically find billions to fund war. The money exists – they just value foreign conflicts more than keeping your local emergency room open.
When federal health funds disappear, the burden doesn't vanish – it falls on us. Local hospitals will be forced into mass layoffs, and county governments will have to drastically hike local property taxes to pay for uncompensated emergency care.
We refuse to be kept in the dark. During the first week of June, patients, nurses, and advocates are holding town halls, forums, and candlelight vigils across the country. We demand that every representative go on the record right now: will you protect our care, or will you let our local health systems collapse?
Everyone gets sick. Everyone needs a functioning emergency room. Whether you live in a rural farming town or a major city, health is primary.
